Don’t Buy CBD On Amazon:Avoid Scams
Have you ever searched for CBD oil on Amazon? Yeah, us too. There are thousands of products that pop up…and they’re generally labeled as “hemp oil extract” or “hemp oil” instead of “CBD oil.”
That is all because Amazon doesn’t allow the sale of CBD oil products, so you will not find any established brands there. What you will find, are fake products sold by individuals who see that “CBD” is a highly searched keyword with zero competition —because it’s not allowed— and jump at the opportunity to make a quick buck.
Amazon and Amazon Prime Prohibits CBD Oil
It’s abundantly clear that Amazon doesn’t allow the sale CBD oil supplements. Their restricted product list includes:
“Products containing cannabidiol (CBD), a Schedule I Controlled Substance, including but not limited to: Rich Hemp Oil containing cannabidiol (CBD)”
So Why Does Amazon Ban CBD?
It’s not reasonable to expect Amazon to check the quality of every product offered on their site, since there are millions of products in their catalog. However, it is very reasonable for Amazon to police what is getting advertised on their platform. It’s unfortunate that Amazon allows these misrepresented products to proliferate on their site. Most likely, Amazon is maintaining this stance because Amazon owns a stake some of these companies.
This unfortunate scam leaves millions of people every month believing that CBD doesn’t work. However, in most cases CBD products have shown great benefits not only for human consumption, but also for animals.
After searching for CBD on Amazon, we contacted the first four companies asked them for third-party lab results.
Many legitimate CBD companies are conscientious and transparent. But with those selling “CBD” on Amazon, some of our communications were bizarre. Some promised to send lab results, which never materialized. One criticized us for focusing on CBD “at the expense” of other plant compounds. Another company’s representative, when pressed for details about some perplexing lab data, admitted that they’d never understood the lab results themselves.
We Decided To Put Amazon’s Top “CBD” Product to the (Lab) Test
Amazon CBD Tincture
If you searched for “CBD oil” on Amazon, this tincture will be the first thing to pop up. They have an impressive 309 reviews.
So, we purchased the top recommended “CBD oil ” on Amazon and sent it to an accredited third-party cannabis testing facility. Well, it does contain CBD!! But not even remotely close to the advertised amount. The “1,000mg” text on the label boldly suggests there is 1,000mg CBD.Lab test results came back at just 8.7mg CBD in the entire bottle.See the lab result below.
The lab report above shows that there’s 0.3mg CBD per gram. This product is in a 1oz (30ml) bottle, with the total liquid inside weighing 29 grams. So, if we multiply 29 by 0.3, we get the total CBD in the product —8.7mg.
How Can You to Tell if a CBD Product is Fake or Mislabeled
None of the five basic human senses will tip off whether something contains CBD. Unless, of course, you’re a scientist with a microscope.
The only way to verify how much CBD is in a product is by sending it to an accredited laboratory to test for cannabinoids.
Lab tests are essential to the integrity and purity of the CBD industry. Any reputable manufacturer will have a lab test, known as a Certificate of Analysis (COA), readily available upon request or by direct download on their website.
Hemp Extract? CBD Oil?
To a normal consumer, it can be easy to confuse “CBD oil”, “CBD hemp oil”, “hemp oil”, and “hemp extract.” To add to the confusion sometimes you will even will see “hemp seed oil”.
So, CBD’s extracted from hemp, right? Shouldn’t any kind of hemp oil contain CBD? Well no, not all. Here’s why:
Hemp seed oil (AKA hemp oil)
Hemp seed oil (hemp oil), is produced from cold pressing the seeds of hemp plants. And while hemp seeds are super nutritious and an awesome food and supplement, they contain no amounts of CBD and other cannabinoids. To keep things simple, just think ofhemp seed oil as being similar to a fish oil supplement.
Hemp seed oil is good for you, but it doesn’t contain the widely-supported benefits of CBD because it just isn’t the same thing!
CBD (cannabidiol) is the non-intoxicating cannabinoid found in cannabis plants. Using various state-of-the-art extraction techniques, the CBD is removed from the cannabis. CBD is responsible for the countless wellness benefits the cannabinoid contains.
CBD companies like Knockout CBD don’t make their CBD products and oils from pressing hemp seeds. We use the entire plant, and especially the flowers. Remember, the highest concentration of CBD is found in the flowers of hemp plants.
“Fake” CBD Oil?
There are two main ways in which “CBD oil” products on Amazon are found to be fake. It’s likely that most of the sellers of “CBD oil” or hemp extract on Amazon are actually selling hemp seed oil, made from pressing hemp seeds.
The most common is when bottles of hemp seed oil are labeled as “hemp oil” and therefore mistaken by the consumer as containing CBD. Even if a product says something like “100mg” on the front of the label, that doesn’t mean it contains 100mg of CBD. It can mean something else entirely or could be a marketing gimmick. Remember, hemp seeds don’t contain CBD. And you can buy hemp seed snacks or hemp seed oil at much lower prices than these fake CBD products.
To make matters worse, vendors on Amazon routinely sell so-called CBD in simply impossible potencies. It’s normal for these shady vendors to claim they’ve packed 10,000, 25,000 or even 50,000 milligrams into a one or two ounce bottle of CBD. Then they sell these fake products for rock bottom prices, undercutting quality CBD vendors.
Hemp seed oil can be used in cooking and is very healthy and nutritious in its own right, but you don’t want to pay the price of CBD oil on Amazon — especially for something that can’t be used for much more than drizzling on your salad.
They’re also taking advantage of CBD’s growing popularity in the U.S. and Amazon’s ban.
Why Real CBD Companies Don’t Sell on Amazon
It’s possible that there are people selling good CBD products on Amazon, risking the rules (and themselves) to better mankind by offering the power of CBD oil to everyone through a trusted platform.
But as it stands, Amazon is not allowing CBD oil to be sold on their platform. Always remember that anybody can sell on Amazon.
How Can You Buy High Quality CBD Oil Online
Now, you know that Amazon isn’t the best place to buy CBD oil, where can you get your hands on the best quality?
Hemp has long been confused as marijuana. This was (legally) cleared up in the 2018 Farm Bill, which clearly confirms hemp-derived CBD oil is legal in the U.S. However, that memo hasn’t gotten to everyone yet, so you still won’t find it sold at many major stores.
The best way to buy CBD oil online is by going directly to the manufacturer of the CBD product or shop all reputable brands.
