Choose Your CBD Dosage

This guide will look at all of the key considerations to make when determining the proper dosage.  There is no ‘correct’ CBD dosage. The optimal dose for a consumer depends on several factors, such as body type, CBD tolerance, and the consumer’s level of pain or discomfort.

Important CBD Dosage Considerations

  • The weight of the individual
  • The concentration of CBD
  • The individual’s body chemistry
  • The severity of the condition being treated

Determining what is the best CBD dosage generally depends on the following factors.

Body weight: A person’s weight often plays a role in how much – or how little – CBD affects the body. Most of the time, heavier people need higher doses to experience the calming effects of CBD; lighter people, on the other hand, may feel the same effects with a lower dose.

Concentration: Concentration, or strength, refers to the total amount of CBD in a product. Concentration is measured in milligrams (mg). This is different from dosage, which indicates the amount of CBD per serving. For instance, let’s say a bottle of CBD tincture has a concentration of 1000 mg and contains 30 milliliters (mL) of tincture, with 1 mL as the standard serving size. This means each 1-mL serving will contain approximately 33 mg of CBD; the consumer is not ingesting 33 mg with each dosage.

Tolerance: CBD can develop a tolerance over time, which can result in reduced effects from the same dosage. Higher subsequent doses may be needed to achieve the desired results.

Desired effects: For many, the optimal dose comes down to the level of pain or discomfort they are experiencing. Someone with chronic pain or severe anxiety may need a higher dose to alleviate their symptoms, whereas a person with a milder condition may prefer a lower dose with less pronounced effects.

How to Choose Your CBD Dosage

1. Start with small dosage and increase gradually

Let’s say you have a friend who weighs no more than 150 pounds and takes 50MG of CBD twice per day, which he claims provides all kinds of benefits. Since you guys are approximately the same weight, he recommends the same dosage for yourself.

Here’s why this isn’t the best way to choose your dosage:

There are countless variables such as weight, diet, metabolism, genetics, environment, product consistency, and more that make a universally prescribed dosage an impossibility.

With these facts in mind, most people who are new to cannabidiol begin their journey by starting with the minimal suggested CBD dosage on any product, then gradually increasing the dose until they achieve the desired results.

2.Estimate your dosage based on your body weight

Individuals with more body mass will require more CBD to experience its effects. With that being said, a good rule of thumb to determine your proper CBD dosage is to take 2–6MG of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight based on the individual’s level of pain.

For example, 24MG-36MG would be a great starting dosage for a 200 lb patient, while 16MG-24MG would be best for another who weighs 150 lb.

How Much CBD Should I Take for My Specific Problem?

We suggests CBD dosages based on scientific research, publications, traditional use, and expert opinion. Cannabinoid dosages and duration of treatment depend mainly on the illness (and countless other factors).

  • Loss of Appetite in Cancer Patients: 2.5mg of THC (orally), with or without 1mg of CBD for six weeks. [Source
  • Chronic Pain: 2.5-20mg of CBD [with or without THC] (orally). [Source]
  • Epilepsy: 200-300mg of CBD (orally) daily. [Source]
  • Movement Problems Due to Huntington’s Disease: 10mg of CBD per kg of body weight daily for six weeks (orally). [Source ]
  • Sleep Disorders: 40mg-160mg of CBD (orally). [Source ]
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS) symptoms: Cannabis plant extracts containing 2.5-120 milligrams of a THC/CBD combination daily for 2-15 weeks. Patients typically use eight sprays within any three hours, with a maximum of 48 sprays in any 24-hour period. [Source ]
  • Schizophrenia: 40-1,280mg oral CBD daily. [Source ]
  • Glaucoma: A single sublingual CBD dosage of 20-40mg (>40 mg may increase eye pressure). [Source ]

Schedules of CBD Consumptions

There are three main CBD oil dosage schedules that people use to take CBD:

  1. Once or Twice Per Day
  2. Every 2-3 Hours
  3. Hourly Microdosing

When finding your ideal dose of CBD oil, we recommend starting with one-quarter dropper 1-2 times per day during the first week, moving up to one half a dropper during the second week, three-quarters of a dropper during the third week, and a full dropper on the fourth week.

Measuring Dosage for Different CBD Products

CBD Hemp Oil Tinctures

Knockout CBD offers 30-mL tinctures bottles in two different concentration level from 500 mg and 1000 mg. The key to understanding tincture dosage is serving size, which is 1 mL per serving. A 500 mg tinctures offer 1-mL servings of roughly 16.7mg of CBD. A 1000 mg tinctures offer 1-mL servings of roughly 33.3mg of CBD. . These two servings will yield very different effects.

For this reason, we urge first-time CBD tincture consumers to start with lower concentrations and gradually ramp up their dosage. It’s important to note that tinctures do not take effect as quickly as other CBD products (namely vape oils) and consumers may not experience the sensations right away; however, the effects can last for up to three or four hours. Those who take the tincture sublingually should hold the 1-ml serving under their tongue for approximately 60 seconds for best results.

CBD Edibles

“So is there a 100% accurate way to take CBD?”

Best way to consume CBD

There certainly is. CBD Capsules and Gummies .

CBD edibles include capsules, gummies, and other products that are eaten. Like tinctures, edibles have a longer onset time because they are ingested orally, but the effects are also much more prolonged. Typically, edibles will take effect within one hour of consumption; the effects will last for up to four or five hours, depending on the strength.

Calculating dosage is fairly easy with these products because each edible represents one serving size and the dosage is always listed in the ingredients. Our gummies have concentrations of 10 mg. For higher-dosage edibles, consumers who prefer moderate doses find that 30 mg softgel Capsules works the best.

CBD Ejuice

Vape oil is CBD oil extracted from hemp that is formulated with a cutting agent, such as vegetable glycerine or propylene glycol. Vape oil is inhaled using a vape pen. The effects are almost instantaneous, and produce a relaxing sensation for up to an hour or so – though the duration of these effects typically depends on how long the consumer inhales from the pen and how long they hold the vapor in before exhaling. Many find that inhaling for up to three seconds and holding the vapor in for up to five seconds will produce the strongest, longest-lasting effects.

In terms of concentration, vape oils are similar to tinctures. Knockout CBD Ejuice come in 30-mL bottles, with 1-mL to 1.5-mL per serving. Concentrations for vape Juice typically range from 250 mg to 500 mg, meaning that the serving size for most oils will range from 6.6mg to 50 mg.

If your proper dosage of CBD is 25MG, and you are using a 500 MG bottle of CBD e-liquid, a single 2ml tank would contain approximately 33.33MG of CBD. That being said, to properly administer your dosage, you would vape a single tank periodically throughout the day.

Again, not 100% accurate; but with regular monitoring, you will be able to quickly gauge your CBD intake.

Deciding How to Use CBD Hemp Oil

Liquid CBD Oil/Tinctures/Extracts: Drops or tinctures should have a “suggested serving size” and the total milligrams of CBD listed on their packaging. From there, you can determine the amount of CBD you would like to ingest. Simply place the correct quantity of drops under your tongue using the dropper and hold the CBD oil in place for a minimum of 60 seconds. The 60 second hold allows for absorption via the blood vessels underneath your tongue – efficiently bypassing first-pass metabolism. Once 60 seconds has passed, swallow the CBD oil.

CBD E-Liquid/Vape Cartridges: Vaping is excellent for people looking for an immediate response, as inhalation is the fastest way to deliver CBDs to your brain and body. To use vape simply exhale gently the air from your lungs then inhale through the mouthpiece slowly for 3 seconds. Then fill your lungs the rest of the way with additional breath and hold for a few seconds, exhaling when ready. There are pre-filled, cost-effective vape pens and cartridges available as well as more expensive vaporizers that you can refill with CBD-infused e-liquid.

CBD Edibles: With edibles, the only required steps are open, eat, and enjoy! This method of consumption will result in more drawn-out effects that also take longer to kick in than some of the other options. Edibles are great for those seeking sustained effects, or for those who want to be subtle about their usage of CBDs.
