[accordion-item title=”What Is CBD?”]

CBD (short for cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating member of the phytocannabinoid family of chemical compounds that can be derived from the cannabis plant. All of the products made at Knockout CBD are hemp-derived.

Cannabidiol—CBD—is a cannabis compound that has significant medical benefits, but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counteract the psychoactivity of THC. The fact that CBD-rich cannabis is non-psychoactive or less psychoactive than THC-dominant strains makes it an appealing option for patients looking for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions without disconcerting feelings of lethargy or dysphoria.

[accordion-item title=”The Endocannabinoid System”]

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biologicalsystem composed of endocannabinoids, which are endogenous lipid-based retrograde neurotransmitters that bind to cannabinoid receptors, and cannabinoid receptor proteins that are expressed throughout the mammalian central nervous system (including the brain)

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a recently discovered group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors found throughout the body.

The endocannabinoid receptors that make up the ECS are located in our Central Nervous System (CNS), Peripheral Nervous System (PNS), and Immune System. Our CNS includes our brain and spinal cord, while the PNS acts as a communication network linking our CNS to the rest of our body. Our brains contain the heaviest concentration of cannabinoid receptors, but there’s no shortage of them in our organs, tissues, glands, and more. The saturation of ECS receptors throughout our body is part of why CBD has so many uses and is so effective.

[accordion-item title=”Cannabidiol CBD”]

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, naturally occurs within the tiny hairlike structures known as trichomes that grow on hemp and cannabis. The first cannabinoid molecule to be discovered in 1940, researchers have been studying CBD’s numerous health benefits ever since. CBD has been shown to promote healthy sleep, relieve occasional joint pain, speed athletic recovery, enhance relaxation, improve mood, reduce stress and frustration, alleviate occasional nausea, and support immune system health.

Cannabidiol exists in two states, CBD and CBD-a. Both are being studied to discover their individual effects on the body. CBD-a, which grows directly on hemp and cannabis, shows a great potential for different types of treatment. However, its effects haven’t been researched as extensively as CBD. When CBD-a is heated to 248°F, it loses its acid chain in a process called decarboxylation (also referred to as “activation”) and becomes CBD. All our products go through this process. CBD has been well studied and has a more pronounced effect than CBD-a due to more efficiently binding to the body’s Cannabidiol receptors.

An organic product, CBD is a safer, natural alternative to synthetic options with little to no side effects. In hemp’s multi-thousand-year history, there has never been a recorded fatality. While CBD has been shown to be non-toxic even at extreme doses, you should consult your doctor if you plan on taking more than 300mg in a 24 hour period.

[accordion-item title=”Cannabinoids”]

Cannabinoids are a group of chemical compounds that are found in–but not exclusive to– cannabis. You can derive phytocannabinoids from pine needles and hops. Our body makes cannabinoids called endocannabinoids and act within the endocannabinoid system. At least 100 cannabinoids have been isolated from cannabis, but the most commonly recognized ones are cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”Are CBD and THC the same thing?”]

No. There are over 100 known cannabinoids, each with their own effect on the body. Though THC and CBD have similar chemical composition, their atoms are arranged differently. Because of the way THC is arranged molecularly, it is the perfect compound for interaction with Cannaboid 1 (CB1) receptors. This connection is the one that provides an intoxicating effect to the brain. CBD, however, is not a good connector to CB1. Instead, CBD connects with CB2 receptor. This produces a completely different effect on the body.

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are the two primary cannabinoids that occur naturally in the Cannabis sativa plant, most commonly known as cannabis.

Both of these substances interact with the cannabinoid receptors found in the human body and brain, but they differed dramatically in their effects.

CBD is non-psychoactive which means that it will not get the user high. Because of this trait, CBD appears more frequently than THC in dietary and natural supplements.

[accordion-item title=”Is CBD legal?”]

Hemp products that contain CBD are currently and successfully brought to market in all 50 states and over 40 countries by many businesses. We encourage users to always check with your local government, police department, or customs office for the most up to date information regarding the legality of CBD in your area before purchase. This answer should not be considered legal advice, so we strongly recommend that you check with your own local administration to ensure that you are happy with the level of legality of consuming these products before you buy them.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”How much CBD should I take?”]

There is no simple answer.  What may be ideal for one person might not be sufficient for others. Your serving size will be dependent on your body weight, individual body chemistry and concentration of the CBD product you’re consuming.

With that being said, a good rule of thumb to determine your proper CBD dosage is to take 1–6MG of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight based on the individual’s level of pain. For example, 20MG-33MG would be a great starting dosage for a 200 lb patient, while 15MG-25MG would be best for another who weighs 150 lb.

We recommend using a small amount of CBD to start and adjusting as needed.

[accordion title=”Frequently asked questions”]

[accordion-item title=”Is CBD Psychoactive?”]

CBD is non-intoxicating. Unlike THC, it does not produce a high, cravings, compulsive use or withdrawal effects. There are also no reported instances of drug abuse with CBD.

Evidence that CBD is Non-Intoxicating

  • CBD does not impair psychomotor performance

One study showed that a dose of 320 μg/kg of oral CBD (about 22 mg) had no effect on tests of reaction time, standing steadiness, or motor coordination. Another study showed that 150 μg/kg (about 10 mg) of smoked CBD had no effect on tests of standing steadiness, motor performance, or manual coordination.

  • CBD does not impair cognitive performance

A 2017 review paper has looked at the effect of CBD on cognition. Oral CBD at a dose of 600 mg did not produce any impairment in tests of verbal memory, social recognition, or executive function in healthy volunteers. No effect on cognition has been observed in rats either.

  • CBD does not have sedative effects

Sedation has occasionally been reported with CBD in the past. However, recent placebo-controlled studies have indicated there is no significant effect on sedation. For example, a 2012 study showed no differences in feelings of mental or physical sedation between a single 600 mg dose of oral CBD versus placebo.

  • CBD does not have abuse liability

I have seen no evidence whatsoever that CBD would be abused as a recreation drug. For example, a 2017 study tested doses of oral CBD from 200 to 800 mg in frequent cannabis smokers (a group that surely would appreciate a high if there was one to be found). No CBD dose differentiated from placebo in measures like how high subjects felt or the street value they would assign to the drug.

[accordion-item title=”Difference Between Hemp Oil and CBD Extracts?”]

The main difference between the two oils is their cannabinoid content. Hemp oil is extracted from hemp seeds. Hemp oil is primarily a nutritious dietary supplement, Used in diverse ways, perhaps the best known of which is in cooking as a replacement for olive oil. Hemp oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E. Some unscrupulous sellers of hemp oil are trying to market it for its medicinal value, which is negligible.

CBD (short for cannabidiol) oil is extracted from the flower and leaves of the hemp plant. It is a naturally occurring chemical that is non-psychoactive.

Whereas CBD oil is a health option intended to treat the symptoms of a variety of ailments. CBD oil has a high concentration of the cannabinoid CBD.

[accordion-item title=”Do your products contain Hemp Oil or CBD Extract?”]

Our products all contain  CBD extract. Our third party potency results show a precise CBD concentration present in each batch of our products. These can be found under our product’s potency results tab. We also test every batch of our hemp for heavy metals and pesticides, in addition to potency, terpenes, residual solvents and micro/mycotoxins. These can be found right next to the Test Results tab on our product pages.

Hemp seed oil is an added ingredient in our tinctures, but the oil itself does not contain any substantial amount of CBD. It’s also possible that hemp seeds may incidentally be extracted during the extraction process, but it is never our intention to do this because they contain lower levels of CBD.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”What is Decarboxylation?”]

Decarboxylation is sometimes referred to as “activating” the chemical compounds found in hemp and cannabis.

Decarboxylation is a chemical reaction that happens during the extraction process when CBDA is heated to 248°F. Decarboxylation will happen above and below 248°F but without the same efficiency. When CBDA reaches 248°F the carboxyl group (COOH) breaks away and is replaced by a proton. This step is important, as the decarboxylation of CBDA to CBD is critical to ensuring that the CBD present in our products have the desired effects within the endocannabinoid system.

[accordion-item title=”Are There Heavy Metals and Pesticides in CBD Products?”]

Although we cannot speak for the CBD products made by any other company, all of our finished products are third-party tested for heavy metals and pesticides, in addition to micro/mycotoxins, residual solvents, terpenes and potency. In order to ensure the highest standard of quality and safety in our products, we follow the guidelines established in the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia Cannabis Monograph.

All of our results are reported on a per serving basis and can be viewed in the “Test Results” section of each product page.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”What is your CBD made from?”]

Our CBD is derived from hemp. We extract the CBD from our hemp with kosher ethanol. The extract undergoes a purification and distillation processes that results in a high quality CBD oil, free from all solvents.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”Do Knockout CBD products contain any THC?”]

Only full spectrum products contains trace amounts of THC can be found in most hemp-derived CBD products.  Our products comply with the federally mandated 0.3% THC limit.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”Will I test positive on a drug test if I use your products?”]

If one uses more than 1000mg  a day of the full-spectrum products (specifically) then there is a federally allowable level of THC along with other cannabinoids which may result in a positive test, depending on the test that is administered. Knockout CBD holds no liability if that were to happen. If this is a major concern for you, then we highly recommend not taking Full Spectrum CBD.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”Are there any heavy metals or pesticides in Knockout CBD products?”]

NO. We third-party test all of the hemp by supplier for heavy metals and pesticides. Our test results can be found on individual product pages.

[/accordion-item]
[accordion-item title=”Do you test the quality of the hemp you use?”]

Yes! Our products undergo a high-level testing protocol to ensure we sell the highest quality and safest products possible and that starts with using top-quality hemp as base material. First, any bulk shipment of hemp is sent to a lab to test for heavy metals and pesticides. Post extraction, we then test the raw oil again for heavy metals and pesticides, and for potency and residual solvents. All batches are sent to a third-party laboratory for potency and quality analysis. All of these test results are visible on each product page. To view test results, click on the “Test Results” tab which will take you to a PDF for each batch that includes information on heavy metals, pesticides, solvents and potency.
